The Bobo Interview

I recently had the pleasure of interviewing Bobo, a versatile artist making his way up in the underground. Below is his interview, enjoy!

Where are you from?

I’m from Sacramento, California—a city that’s shaped my perspective and passion for music. Growing up here, I’ve been able to draw inspiration from the diverse cultures and creative energy in my surroundings.

Why did you get into music?

I got into music simply because I love it. My passion for music runs so deep that I’d still create it even if there was no money involved. For me, music is a form of self-expression and therapy—a way to connect with others on a deeper level. Who are your inspirations? Musically, I’m inspired by a wide range of artists. Smino, SZA, Eric Bellinger, Kendrick Lamar, and Baby Keem all influence my sound in different ways. I also pull heavily from the rich world of R&B, from modern artists like Brent Faiyaz to classics like The Isley Brothers. I love blending these influences to create something uniquely my own.

What are your goals for music?

My ultimate goal in music is to be a disruptive, positive influence. I want to change the tide, challenge the status quo, and bend the rules creatively. I aim to inspire others to think outside the box and approach music in new, innovative ways.

Any interesting recent events or upcoming news?

Big things are on the horizon for me. In March, I’m dropping the third installment of my mixtape series, Versatility is a Virtue Pt. 3. This project is particularly special because I’ve handled much of the process myself—I mixed and engineered the entire tape. I got beats from my brother and talented producers I discovered on YouTube. On top of that, I’m stepping into new territory by releasing actual music videos to accompany the project. This is something I’ve hesitated on in the past, but I know that taking this step is crucial for reaching the next level in my career.
